blue whale boutique

i am so excited to announce the website launch and grand opening of a fantastic new online store- blue whale boutique

blue whale boutique is a cottage shop started by one of my besties (i am SO proud of her!!!) offering super cute and unique handmade creations for children ( ages newborn through age 8 ) and even a few treats for their mommies.  everything they sell is handmade or embellished with hand crafted finishes.  in addition to her own handmade goods, she also carries the handmade goods of a few other local designers (all of whom are fabulous) - NanaBug, Shelly’s Handmade, Sweet Cherub, Handmade by Jen & “I’m This Many”.

please check out the site and indulge in some handcrafted fabulousness!

first baby item, purchased!

while in new york, david and i bought the first item for our new baby!  it’s so adorable , we couldn’t pass it up (espcially after meeting the artist who makes them)!  but, it’s so hard to believe i am growing something inside of me that is going to fit into it one day!

paint by numbers

i gave this to david for christmas.  it’s a custom paint by numbers kit created by easy123art.com from a photo i submitted.  its going to take a long while to finish since it is very detailed, but i will keep you posted on the progress.  i’m going to wait to show you the photo it was created from until the very end (just for a dramatic effect).  but i bet you can guess who the star of the painting is…i can hardly wait to see the final product!

pet plushies

look what a really crafty aussie girl made for us…

our pets as plushies

it’s our pups (tonka, kona, sadie, and barley, clockwise in photo) as plushies!  tonka and kona are lynne’s dogs, barley is my sister’s puppy, and, of course, you know that sadie is our dog-ter.

i found the artist on etsy, her shop is called whispylove.  aren’t they adorable?!  she has created an entire blog devoted to her pet plushies- our pups are showcased!

thanks, ashlee- we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!

our wedding quilt

our wedding quilt is here!  thank goodness our quilter emailed me pictures when she was finished making it,  because i would have been blown away if i had just opened the package without an appropriate warning of how fantastic this quilt is.  LOOK!!!…

what a treasure, huh?  i love it!!!  it’s absolutely perfect!  she did the most amazingly wonderful job (and in record time- it took her 4 days!)!  even if you are not in the market for a quilt, you should really check out her shop, lmk quilts, on etsy.   her creations may inspire you to reconsider.

here’s a detail photo…

detail of wedding quilt

we are planning to hang it (with the sleeve attached on the back solely for this purpose) but are unsure of where.  perhaps in the guest bedroom- it’s quite big, so we need a pretty empty wall.  i hope we find the perfect spot, because once its displayed, its loveliness and all the love spread through the messages from our family and friends can be cherished daily.

signature wedding quilt squares

instead of asking guests to sign a traditional guest book at our wedding, my mom had the very lovely idea of asking guests to write messages on pieces of fabric quilting squares.  four years later, the squares were still sitting in the same bag up in the attic patiently awaiting the day that they would be crafted into something nice.  i decided that the time had come…four years was long enough to wait.  it was time to do something with the signature squares.

i spent a few weeks “interviewing” quilters, making the messages from all of our fabulous wedding guests dark enough to read from afar, picking out fabrics, and looking at LOTS of quilts.  i found a very nice and thoughtful lady who seems to understand and appreciate my vision for the project perfectly.  at this very moment, she is piecing together my fabrics and creating what i hope will be the best quilt i have ever seen.  i am so looking forward to seeing the final product!  stay tuned for pictures…

progress on my list

the list, revisited:

read more books; learn how to play my keyboard; find a sewing machine and learn how to sew; practice my yoga more often; bike more often; take sadie on more walks; run when my knee is not hurting

we are in the height of summer…with all intentions of reading more books, i sadly report that i have only finshed two!  a bit behind, but boy the first two were great-love in the time of cholera and a re-reading of the great gatsby.  i am currently reading a confederacy of dunces and still have every intention of reading more, but there is always other stuff to do…

we joined netflix and i am now obesessed with brothers and sisters!  seriously, i can’t get enough of it.  i am only on season one, so no give-aways, PLEASE-but i have never watched something that consistently makes me laugh out loud, smile uncontrollably, and cry all in one 43 minute episode.  in fact, i never watch anything that makes me cry, yet this show does it.  that damn war…

and, big news (and quite helpful for making progres on my list) my sweet mom gave me a sewing machine!  so now i can get started on yet another thing…first, learning how to sew and then making pretty new things.

plus, i am advancing in my yoga practice and think i will start the mysore class (advanced ashtanga yoga) in the next few weeks, i am biking in the mornings and enjoying the hills and the cool morning breezes, and faithfully trying to walk sadie multiple times weekly.

life has so many fun things to spend time on…i could never be bored.

i just need 5 more days in the week to fill with stuff to do!
