sam and joon: the sweetest movie moment ever.
as many of you may know, benny and joon is my all time favorite movie. so many endearing scenes, great songs, and an unforgettable love story all told through a quirkiness that pulls at your heart strings. this is my favorite scene of the movie AND one of my most favorite songs in the world.
mr. november…here’s hoping.
if you have not already had the pleasure of hearing the band, the national…you must do so. i have liked them for a while, but after seeing them open for REM in june, they have become my latest and greatest musical obsession–often highlighted in late night dance parties and blasted out of the car window when driving alone. we especially enjoy the song, mr. november, the last song on their album, alligator. i don’t think this song actually has anything to do with the presidential elections, but more about the pressure of deadlines. however, they cleverly created these t-shirts that i love.
i know all of my readers will not share my passion for the obama/biden ticket. i would like to say that i understand your choice, but i don’t. what i will not do, however, is make our difference in opinion personal. but, you know who i will be casting my vote for on november 4-
obama ‘08…i will remain hopelessly hopeful.
she and him
our friends were unable to attend a concert on tuesday night, which happened to be sold-out. very graciously they gave us their tickets.
we had not heard of she and him until this week, and boy, were we missing out on some good american indie music. what a treat! the music was fantastic- indie with blue grass and country sounds. my favorite part of the show was becky, the back-up vocalist. she charmed the crowd with her innocent apprearance and sweet voice. to add to her delightfulness, she, along with Zooey Deschanel, wore peach colored dresses “because they were in Georgia!” so charming. and, to no surprise, m. ward’s voice was amazing and dream-like.
we enjoyed it very much.
so long, bryant park project
to my surprise, the npr show, the bryant park project, ended today. i listened, as i faithfully do when i drive to work solo, and bid it farewell. the show’s favorite song of the day, appropriately, made me smile. it actually made me think of david. dan zanes, the artist behind the song, must be as lucky as i am to have a “david” in his life.
thought i would share the lyrics:
smile for a while
that’s the one thing you always do
smile smile smile
smile for a while
i know what i’ll do when i see you again
i’m gonna smile smile smile
like ripples in a pond
or runners who pass the baton
good feelings will go on for mile after mile
and your big heart circles the world
every time that you smile
smile for a while
your crazy hairdos and your thriftshop coats
smile smile smile
smile for a while
the whole world starts singing along
smile smile smile
smile for a while
you know what i’ll do when i see you again
smile smile smile
